Rosemary joined Virginia Organizing in May, 2017 as the Director of Communications. She grew up near Chicago but has lived in Charlottesville since 1989 when she came here to be a doctoral student in UVA’s English Department. She has a husband and three teenage kids and sometimes teaches poetry classes for adults. Rosemary has volunteered locally for Offender Aid and Restoration, PACEM, and Literacy Volunteers of America, and worked for several non-profits, and she has a lifelong history of activism for environmental and social justice. She has been particularly involved in campaigns for the rights of people in prison, returning citizens, and others who have been denied education and voting rights. “I’m very happy to have this opportunity to contribute to Virginia Organizing’s excellent work. I’ve admired Virginia Organizing’s effectiveness in fighting for social justice since they started in 1995.”
