Christiansburg, Virginia – Virginia Organizing Chapters around the state are working to put pressure on state Members of Congress who have refused to answer the calls of constituents. Over the next few weeks, the Wise County, Wythe County, and New River Valley will be at the office of Congressman Griffith demanding to know why they have not responded to the organization’s calls. Vital programs such as Medicaid and child care hang in the balance, and Virginia residents do not feel they have a say in their outcome.
The first event will be held on Saturday March 29 at 11 a.m., where the NRV and Wytheville chapters joint press conference will be near Representative Griffith’s office in Christiansburg at the intersection of W. Main St. and N. Franklin St. The press conference will largely focus on the pending threats to Medicaid in Virginia, but it will also speak to other potential federal budget cuts (SNAP, education, student loans, etc.). Another event will occur in Lee County in April.
“Chapters worked hard to mobilize their communities and give Virginia’s legislators a push to support the Medicaid expansion. In the New River Valley, we celebrated the win by knocking on doors and personally telling people the bill passed. We saw lots of smiles, and people shared their excitement about the possibility of being able to get medical care more easily. Medicaid has helped so many people across our state. We can’t afford to lose it!,” said chapter leader Brandy Faulkner.
