  • Provide tax credits for up to 99,565 Virginia small businesses to help make coverage more affordable.
  • Prohibit insurance companies from excluding coverage of pre-existing conditions for the 1.8 million children in Virginia, starting this year.

Crossposted on Stafford County Sun...Grumbling about health care reform is a regular topic on cable TV to the point that I’ve decided to devote my column this week to the positives of the new Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. While researching the topic, contrary to my expectations, I came across the headline “Poll shows opposition to health care overhaul declining (The Washington Post, 7/29/2010).” So opposition to reform actually declined in July from 41 percent of those polled to 35 percent. "Virginia Can Ill Afford to Have This Drag Out for Years"

Richmond, VA-Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli’s attempt to derail federal health care reform legislation was continued today by U.S. District Court Judge Henry E Hudson. Hudson, who has known financial ties to Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, rejected arguments from Obama administration attorneys that the state of Virginia may not overrule the constitution in order to block the health care reform insurance mandate.

What Wall Street Reform Means...

Key Provisions Go a Long Way Preventing Another Financial Crisis

The historic Wall Street reform legislation passed by the Senate last night will have an impact on Main Street as well as Wall Street. The big banks will make every effort to dilute the bill in the House-Senate conference. Congress must assure that nothing is done to weaken the legislation, that the strongest provisions of each bill make it into the final version and that potential loopholes are closed. Here are the key provisions that will provide all Americans with economic stability.

Real consumer protection: independent from the biggest banks that have put their profits ahead of us. Now credit cards and mortgages will offer terms in language we can all understand.  It will also offer help for those abused by predatory lenders.
