Please join Virginia Organizing and Valley Justice Coalition for a forum bringing together Harrisonburg community members to identify community values with respect to criminal justice and define goals for the future of criminal justice in Harrisonburg (Asbury Methodist Church room 300). We will ask critical criminology questions such as, “Is our criminal justice system serving our community?” and “What makes us feel safe?”, defining a community vision and setting goals for the development of a local criminal justice system which is fair, just, and serves all of us. Sessions will examine critical areas in greater depth such as immigration, homelessness and community-police relations. Virginia Organizing will present on ongoing efforts to address criminalization at the local level, including a new community-police relations report as well as a review of Harrisonburg Police Department’s Standard Operating Procedures. Contact information for local criminal justice community resources will be provided. We will be serving Strites Donuts and coffee at 9:30!
