ALBEMARLE COUNTY, VA (NEWSPLEX) — About a dozen people came together Wednesday to push for Medicaid expansion in the state of Virginia.
They gathered at a community forum held by delegates David Toscano and Rob Bell in Albemarle County.
Bell is known to be against the expansion of Medicaid in Virginia. He says Medicaid already takes up a large part of the state budget.
Demonstrators say lawmakers should be able to find a way to make expansion possible.
“These people are dying,” said Virginia Organizing volunteer Dell Erwin. “It’s estimated that up to 19 people die a week in Virginia because they don’t have adequate healthcare so the arguments seem ridiculous and it seems so fiscally irresponsible for a conservative like Bell to deny Virginia this money.”
An estimated 400,000 Virginians would be covered under a medicaid expansion.
