The Virginia Organizing 2016 Annual Report is more compact than our past years’ reports, but it is filled with a lot of accomplishments and wins that you helped make happen! You can see the full report here. 

Because of our many volunteer leaders and members, we were able to get Henry County to ban the criminal history box on public job applications, work with local hospitals to secure better communication access for deaf and hard of hearing patients and their families, and secure a new memorandum of understanding between Spotsylvania County Schools and Spotsylvania law enforcement to stop excessive referrals of students to law enforcement for non-criminal behavioral issues.

The key to our success in grassroots organizing remains consistent — organizing directly affected people to share their stories, speak out on issues important to them, become leaders in their community, and take action for change.

We also could not have succeeded this year without the support of our many volunteers, partners, funders, and donors. Your support ensures that people like Shelia Carter can go from carrying the label of “felon” to embracing the title of “leader” in her community. Your support means that Ronna Wertman won’t have to interpret in American Sign Language for hours at her local hospital should her mother need health services again.
