Richmond, VA-On Saturday, August 7, over 200 community members from Danville, Martinsville, Hampton Roads, Virginia Beach, Williamsburg, Charlottesville, Shenandoah Valley, Roanoke, Southwest, Fredericksburg and other parts of the state will come together in Richmond to celebrate the Virginia Organizing Project’s fifteenth anniversary of grassroots community organizing in Virginia. The organization and its supporters will take the celebration as an opportunity to reflect on changes they have observed in the state over the last 15 years.

Founded in 1995, the Virginia Organizing Project is a statewide grassroots organization that has involved thousands of Virginians in campaigns ranging from health care reform to low-income housing rights to living wage campaigns. The anniversary celebration will include a retrospective of the past fifteen years of organizing in the state, workshops, a mock-car show of the donated vehicles used by VOP’s community organizers, awards to a variety of individuals and organizations, and a children’s art contest. The Virginia Organizing Project will also be unveiling major organizational changes including a new logo and a new name.
