Virginia Beach, VA– In advance of the Wednesday House vote on repealing the health care law, a delegation of leaders from Virginia Organizing will visit Senator Jim Webb’s Virginia Beach office at 10 am on Wednesday to deliver a new report detailing what Virginia would lose should the health care law be repealed and to urge Senator Webb's continued support for the new law.
In the face of Republican efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the delegation will ask for Senator Jim Webb’s continued support to ensure that the ACA fulfills its promise to protect consumers from the worst insurance company abuses. The repeal bill would roll back provisions of the new law that are already benefiting consumers. These include free preventive care for seniors in Medicare and new rebates for consumers from insurance companies that don’t spend enough premium dollars on actual medical care.
With the new Republican majority in the House, the repeal bill will likely pass and move on to the Senate. It will be up to the Senate to preserve consumer rights and benefits under the ACA by stopping the repeal effort. Local consumers who are being helped by protections in the law plan to urge Senator Webb to stand up once again for consumers by not letting the insurance companies off the hook and instead defend struggling consumers who benefit from the ACA.
