Richmond Forum to Celebrate One-Year Anniversary of the Health Care Law

The Affordable Care Act: A Year Old and A Century in the Making

Richmond, VA – On Tuesday, March 22, Virginia Organizing will celebrate the one-year anniversary of the passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act with an educational forum on how the law will help Virginians. The forum will be held at the General Assembly Building and will feature Joanne Grossi, Regional Director of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and Dr. Mark Ryan of Richmond.

 

Joanne Grossi, Regional Director of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, will explain what the new health care law will mean for families, Medicare recipients, individuals with ‘pre-existing conditions,’ small business owners, young people and more.

 

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was signed into law on March 23, 2010. Many key health care law provisionshave already gone into effect including provisionsthat make sure insurance companies spend at least 80 percent of premiums on health care and close the Medicare Part D “Donut Hole.”  Other provisions will not go into effect until 2014.

 

The forum is part of a nationwide week of action celebrating the one-year anniversary of the Affordable Care Act.

Speaker Bio:In April 2010, Joanne Grossi (MIPP) was appointed by the Obama Administration as the Regional Director of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for Region III, which includes the states of Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.  As Regional Director, Ms. Grossi serves as the key representative in this region in working with federal, state, local and tribal officials on a wide range of health and social services issues.
