What: Press conference in support of the proposed rental inspection program
When: Tuesday, October 12 at 12 p.m.
Where: Richmond City Hall, 900 E. Broad Street, Richmond, VA 23219
Richmond, Va. – On Tuesday, October 12 at 12 p.m., the Richmond chapter of Virginia Organizing will hold a press conference before the October City Council meeting to bring awareness to the substandard living conditions many tenants experience across Richmond. This press conference will highlight the concerns and experiences of tenants and community members from across Richmond. They are calling on the city administration to finish the planning of a rental inspection program that they were tasked to do almost two years ago!
Virginia Organizing and community partners have been working to address this problem since 2022. In 2023, the council approved RES. No. 2023-R006, which requested that the city administration develop a plan for a rental inspection program. Since then, there has been no significant progress or transparency from city officials. Richmond renters deserve better!
Speakers will include affected community members and community partners.
