Richmond, Va. – The Richmond Chapter of Virginia Organizing will hold a roundtable discussion with newly elected council members at the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church on Wednesday, December 4 from 6-7:30 p.m. Virginia Organizing will ask council members to verbally commit to prioritize a rental inspection program in Richmond.
Virginia Organizing and community partners have been advocating for a rental inspection program in Richmond since 2022. In 2023, the City Council approved RES. No. 2023-R006, which asked city administration to develop a plan for a rental inspection program. Since then, no significant progress has been made.
At the roundtable, Virginia Organizing will give a history of the rental inspection program. This will be followed by a series of speakers, including directly-affected people and community partners. The event will wrap up with small group discussions and asking council members to publicly commit to prioritize the rental inspection program.
Spanish and ASL interpretation will be provided.
The Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church is located at 1720 Mechanicsville Tpke, Richmond, VA 23223. The event is free and open to the public. Street parking will be available.
