Forum to Educate Residents on Property Rights and Gas Drilling
Bristol-On Monday, October 3 at 7:00 p.m., local residents will gather in Bristol at the Valley Institute Elementary School for a forum on property rights and gas drilling.
The Virginia Department of Mines & Minerals only requires 25% leased landowners to force adjacent residents into a gas drilling pool, a provision affecting thousands of property owners in Washington County. Event organizers say many local residents are unaware of this fact and are unclear about their rights when it comes to hydrofracking—a method used to recover natural gas deposits in shale formations which uses millions of gallons of water, laced with a cocktail of chemicals, to fracture shale and release gas.
The Know-Your-Gas Drilling Property Rights Forum will:
- Provide facts on gas drilling since thousands of acres in Washington County are already leased
- Outline the details of the 25% forced pooling concept and provide steps to protect your property
- Discuss proposed zoning changes in Washington County, Virginia to allow drilling
