RICHMOND, VA: Virginia Organizing today called out the leadership of the U.S. House of Representatives, including Rep. Eric Cantor, for the latest attempt to repeal health care reform — the 31st such effort, according to a National Public Radio report.
Virginia Organizing Chairperson Sandra Cook noted that the Affordable Care Act already benefits millions of Americans, including Americans with life-threatening illnesses who no longer face caps on benefits, millions who benefit from being on their parents' plans, children whose pre-existing conditions are now covered, seniors who are now able to afford their prescription drugs and individual and small business consumers who are beginning to receive rebates due to insurance company overcharges.
"Seriously?" asked Sandra Cook. "During the past three years, House Leaders have voted and failed to take away health care 31 times and have yet to pass even one jobs bill. I'm certainly glad I have health coverage, because this disgusting attempt at partisan politics is making me ill. Enough is enough!"
Virginia Organizing has been working on health care reform for nearly four years in conjunction with other state and national partners. Members and supporters of Virginia Organizing are real people who have experienced the pain and burden of a health care system that routinely responds to corporate profiteering over individual and family health needs.
Virginia Organizing leader Beth Hurley, who has been working on health care reform for a year and a half, responded, "This should be over with. The U.S. Supreme Court made a decision to uphold the law and continuing to fight against the Affordable Care Act is only furthering tension in our nation, when we should be focused on strengthening the economy and keeping jobs in America."
