Today, some Virginia Organizing leaders went to the White House to discuss the looming Budget Showdown in Washington during the lame duck session. After the election, but before newly-elected Congresspeople are sworn in, there is a period of time we call the lame duck session. This year's session will be active since we have several tax cuts that are set to expire at the end of the year and automatic, across-the-board cuts that will kick in called sequestration. For more information on the Budget Showdown, click here.
We need your help today. Let's all call U.S. Senators Jim Webb and Mark Warner to tell them what is important to Virginians. Congress will likely debate making a deal that will include some cuts to services. We need you to tell the Senators to let the Bush tax cuts expire for the wealthiest two percent and to make no cuts to Medicaid, Medicare or Social Security. Any "grand bargain" that cuts Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security is no bargain at all for Virginia!
Call Senator Warner at 1-877-676-2759 and Senator Webb at 1-202-224-4024 today and let them know to end Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest two percent and not make any cuts to Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security!
