Norfolk, Va. – On Wednesday, January 30 at noon, Virginia Organizing will hold a demonstration at U.S. Senator Mark Warner's Norfolk office to present him with an oversized "balance due" notice for big corporations and wealthy individuals to pay their fair share of taxes.
The recent tax deal passed by Congress to avoid the so-called "fiscal cliff" was only a first step toward making our tax system fairer. The tax bill left many special-interest loopholes and tax deductions in place that are used by the wealthy and big corporations to avoid paying their fair share of taxes.
"As a consequence for continuing to keep taxes so low for those who benefit the most from our tax code, our government is considering cuts for those with the most to lose," said Sandra A. Cook, Chairperson of Virginia Organizing.
Virginia Organizing is calling on Senator Warner to take a firm stand against cuts to any programs that benefit families.
