What: Rally to call on big corporations to pay their fair share
When: Monday, July 29, 2013 at noon
Where: Free Speech Monument, Downtown Charlottesville
Charlottesville, Va.—On Monday, July 29 at noon at the Charlottesville Free Speech Monument, Virginia Organizing will gather to promote tax fairness by asking Congress to close tax loopholes for the wealthiest Americans and big corporations that are shipping jobs and profits overseas. Local residents will perform a skit to creatively show how corporate tax dodging affects the U.S.
Semaje Smith of Charlottesville said, “Local schools, children, and families are having to pay the price so big corporations can keep money from the U.S. government by shifting profits to offshore accounts. We need to stop making cuts and start making sure that big corporations are paying their fair share.”
Virginia Organizing is a state affiliate of Americans for Tax Fairness, which believes that big corporations have gone long enough without having to pay their fair share in taxes. Some corporations even receive tax refunds from the U.S. government by shifting profits to offshore accounts.
