Did you know that there is an election every single year in Virginia? On November 5, Virginians will head to the polls to elect a new Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, and House of Delegates.
The laws and ID requirements from last year’s election still hold for this year. You can find more information on those requirements by clicking here.
The Governor of Virginia has duties that include drafting a budget and signing and vetoing legislation. The Lieutenant Governor presides over the Virginia Senate and in the event of a tie, casts the tie-breaking vote. The Attorney General defends the state constitution and is the legal representative of the people of Virginia. Members of the House of Delegates draft legislation and are part of the process of creating new laws.
All of these roles are important and it is equally important that you are a part of deciding who will serve our Commonwealth in those roles.
