Duane Edwards is a Fredericksburg Chapter leader who has been working hard to get the word out about the Affordable Care Act and restoration of civil rights for former felons. Duane organized a restoration of rights workshop in a local homeless shelter and assisted with another workshop close by. In addition, he has been working with his church to host conversations about the Affordable Care Act and how to get people enrolled in the new Health Insurance Marketplace.
“In my church, my pastor teaches that we need to meet people where we are,” said Duane. “I’m working with Virginia Organizing to help solve some of these problems at a systemic level.”
Duane believes that helping people get their right to vote back is essential to empowerment of an individual and community.
“I can always give people information to help them learn about resources available and how to accomplish their goals,” said Duane. “This work is right in line with what my faith teaches.”
Thank you, Duane, for all your work!
