Norfolk, Va.—Virginia Organizing and other members of the Let’s Make A Difference Coalition will host an Affordable Care Act seminar on Saturday, October 11 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Faith Deliverance Christian Center to help community members understand their options for health care coverage and how to get involved in supporting community access to care through Medicaid expansion.
Virginia Organizing South Hampton Roads Chapter leader Winston Whitehurst believes this event is important for the community to better understand the benefits of access to health care and the greater need for everyone to have health insurance through Medicaid expansion.
“Lack of health insurance leaves vulnerable Virginians exposed to illnesses,” said Winston Whitehurst. “Virginia is in a position to provide outstanding preventive, acute and chronic health care service by expanding Medicaid—we have an opportunity to take care of Virginia citizens and make sure they are covered.”
The seminar will cover the topics of medical education and service delivery in Virginia, opportunities for community engagement in addressing local health care needs, best practices for caregivers and providers, outreach and enrollment for the Health Insurance Marketplace, and more.
The Let’s Make a Difference Coalition is a group of churches, faith-based organizations, and community service agencies.
