Contact Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine to extend premium tax credits
Last year, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to help people afford health insurance by extending subsidies that were originally passed under the 2021 American Rescue Plan. These subsidies have allowed a record 14.5 million people to afford health insurance through the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
However, unless the Senate acts soon, all of the gains we’ve made in insuring millions more people will come crashing down.
Please write a comment to Senator Mark Warner and Senator Tim Kaine to make sure they understand how vital these subsidies—sometimes called “premium tax credits”—are to Virginians, or call them at 202-224-3121.
If no action is taken, an individual making $18,000 a year will see the cost of an annual health insurance plan increase by $624 while a family of four making $60,000 will see an annual increase of about $2,650.
How much will your plan go up? You can read state specific estimates here.
Families are still struggling with the consequences of the pandemic, and they have lost the child tax credit that lifted so many out of poverty. They can’t afford another huge hit to their budgets. Congress must act now.
