Winchester, Va. – On Wednesday, February 20 at 11 a.m., Virginia Organizing leaders will gather outside of U.S. Representative Frank Wolf’s Winchester office to urge the Congressman to put the needs of all people over tax breaks for the wealthy in the latest budget negotiations.
Donna Phillips, a Virginia Organizing leader, said, “I will be at Representative Wolf’s office on Wednesday to support other means of raising revenue instead of cuts to Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security.”
Virginia Organizing and Health Care for America Now (HCAN) called on Congress during the “fiscal cliff” discussions to make decisions that are fair and do not increase the tax burden for those with the least financial resources. Since the budget negotiations were pushed back, the groups will continue to urge Congress not to sacrifice the needs of all Americans in order to fund tax breaks for big corporations and the wealthiest Americans.
“Many seniors in Virginia rely on Social Security and Medicare – we plan around these programs and make choices about our personal budgets based on them,” said Virginia Organizing leader Jalmeen Soni. “We cannot let Congress jeopardize our children’s future by cutting the programs we benefit from now. Instead, we need to be closing the corporate tax loopholes and asking them to pay their fair share.”
