Last month, the Danville Chapter worked with a group of students to engage in the community dialogue regarding issues that are important to them. Students wrote letters to the editor and several were published (see below)! Congratulations Danville students and keep up the good work!
Support Public Education

I am 16 years old. I went to E.A. Gibson Middle School and have heard that it might be closing in the coming years.
I think it’s ridiculous that education is highly valued yet we are closing down schools. The wealthiest Virginians need to pay their fair share in taxes so kids can get a proper education.
If you have the same concerns I do about your children’s education, I encourage you to call Del. Danny Marshall and state Sen. Bill Stanley to let them know how important this issue is to Danville.
Good Paying Jobs Needed

My problem with the economy is that jobs are moving overseas, leaving fewer jobs with lower pay here in Danville.
We must get our mayor and city leaders to bring up this matter so that our residents can live off of more than basic minimum wage. The lower wages affect the environment and quality of our city.
I hope that Rep. Robert Hurt works to keep jobs in Danville and support Virginia’s workers.
Save Gibson Middle

When I went to E.A. Gibson Middle School, I was scared because I didn’t really know my way around.
But after a few days, it was better. I got along with the teachers, the secretary and the principals. I went to E.A. Gibson for three years, and I really liked going there. If I were still young, I would go there before any other school.
I hope that our General Assembly restores education funding so that Gibson doesn’t have to close.
