On Thursday, June 25, hundreds of voting rights activists will gather in Roanoke to defend the right to vote and support a fair democracy for all Americans!
Will you join with Virginia Organizing and other groups at this important rally? Check out the flyer below!
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. June 25 also marks an important day in the history of voting rights – in 2013, the U.S. Supreme Court dismantled parts of the law in Shelby County v. Holder.
As a result of the Supreme Court decision, partisan elected officials can make changes to voting laws without prior approval from the Justice Department. This means states like Virginia with a history of discriminatory policies are not subject to the same scrutiny they once were.
We hope you’ll join us for this important event. Transportation may be available in your area. Please contact Brian Johns at 276-619-1920 or bjohns@virginia-organizing.org for more information on carpools and buses.
Thank you for your support of voting rights!
