Corporate lobbyists are working hard to make sure they pay as little tax as possible on profits they stash in offshore tax havens. U.S. Senator Mark Warner has previously proposed closing offshore tax loopholes and Virginia Organizing wants to ask him to continue to take the lead on this important issue as we approach another budget showdown in Congress.
U.S. corporations have $2.1 trillion in profits stashed offshore to dodge their tax liability. When corporations don’t pay their fair share, guess who does? Virginians like you and me. People already struggling to make ends meet. Seniors and people with disabilities because of reduced cost of living adjustments in their Social Security benefits.
Congress should require corporations to pay what they owe on offshore profits. We need Senator Warner to stand with Virginians and reject any proposals that reward corporations for exploiting loopholes to avoid taxes.
These corporations benefit from our tax dollars that support U.S. infrastructure, schools, safety, and more. They should pay what they owe.
