Fund a Homeless Shelter on the Peninsula

There are currently no shelters open year-round that address the immediate community
need of housing for all.

Hampton and Newport News city councils need to take the issue more seriously given
the worsening economic realities for marginalized families and individuals in the
Hampton Roads region. The timeline by which American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA)
funding can be used as a revenue source for the shelter in Fiscal Year 2025 will soon
end. Hampton and Newport News city councils must prioritize revenue solutions in their
upcoming FY 2025 budgets to break ground on a regional shelter by the end of next
year.

We add our name in support of a shelter on the peninsula and demand that Hampton
and Newport News city councils add ARPA Funding for a shelter in their FY2025
budgets.
