General Assembly Visits – Going Strong!

Several chapters have sent representatives to visit the General Assembly so far this session. Eastern Shore, Shenandoah Valley Chapters, Newport News, and Norfolk went earlier this month. Fredericksburg, Portsmouth, and Suffolk sent leaders just this week!

They met with delegates, senators, and legislative aides to talk about our priorities. We want to see Environmental Justice, an end to predatory lending, driver’s licenses for undocumented Virginians, and many other laws that will dismantle racism and promote a more just Virginia.

SAW Chapter members visited on Climate Lobby Day and spoke up for a Green New Deal.
Eastern Shore met with Delegate Robert Bloxom. They urged him to support driver’s licenses for undocumented Virginians, not driver privilege cards. They also spoke with him about the need for competitive salaries for teachers in rural areas like the Eastern Shore.
Garry Hunter, of the Newport News Chapter, presented on the transit campaign during a panel discussion of environmental organizing offered by the Virginia Interfaith Center and Virginia Interfaith Power & Light.

See this one-pager for the current progress of our campaigns.
