Rick Perry may have made headlines with his remarks about Social Security, but Danville resident Gloria Johnson is making sure that seniors and those who rely on the program, have the last word.  Gloria got involved with Virginia Organizing and immediately rolled up her sleeves to fight against the attacks on Social Security.  

“I am passionate about Social Security because I know what it means to seniors like myself, young survivors and the disabled,” said Gloria. She recently organized a large forum at her church to set the record straight on Social Security.  Over 80 Danville residents turned out to see a presentation outlining the facts about Social Security.

“I know that a lot of people take misinformation spread by politicians as fact. Social Security is on the deficit reduction chopping block, but the program does not contribute a penny to the deficit. Social Security is not broken, so politicians in Washington should leave it alone,” explained Gloria at the first of many Social Security presentations in the Danville area. “If we don’t speak out on Social Security and other issues, we get nothing. We have to remind these politicians why we sent them to Washington,” added Gloria.
