Groups Deliver Paper Towel Rolls to House Members in Support of SB 837 to “Clean Up” Mortgage Fraud

Richmond– Members of Virginia Organizing, Virginia Poverty Law Center and other groups will make their way through the halls of the Virginia General Assembly this afternoon at 2:00 pm armed with 100 paper towel rolls designed to make the point that the House should support SB 837 to “wipe out” foreclosure fraud.

The paper towel rolls don the label “Virginia’s Foreclosure Process is a Mess. Clean it Up. Vote Yes on SB 837” (photos below). The legislation will be heard in the Civil Law Subcommittee of the House Courts of Justice Committee tomorrow and is the only foreclosure bill still alive this legislative session.

The bill prevents fraudulent records or documents from being used in a foreclosure.

“I don’t understand why any legislator would vote against a bill to stop foreclosure fraud,” said Jay Speer of the Virginia Poverty Law Center.

“All over Virginia, residents are struggling to stay in their homes in this economy. It is unfathomable that the General Assembly would vote against giving Virginia’s homeowners protection against fraud,” said Sandra Cook, Chairperson of Virginia Organizing.
