What: Community Block Party for Change
When: Saturday, October 19 from 10 a.m. to noon
Where: Lake Edward Community Basketball Court, Virginia Beach
Virginia Beach, Va.—Virginia Organizing and the African American Pastor’s Alliance will host a community block party for social change at the Lake Edward Community Basketball Court in Virginia Beach on Saturday, October 19 between 10 a.m. and noon. The Lake Edward Community had the lowest voter participation in the most recent election.
“Virginia Organizing will share information on important issues that affect local people and also provide information on where, how, and what is needed to vote,” said Virginia Organizing State Governing Board Member and local South Hampton Roads Chapter leader Debra Grant. “This is an opportunity to educate people about lifting their voices at the polls.”
The block party is non-partisan, educational, and open to the public. The event is designed to encourage civic engagement and participation by those directly affected by policy decisions of elected officials.
