Virginia Organizing to Host Gas Drilling Q&A Session Following Washington County Board of Supervisors Forum
BRISTOL-On Monday, January 23 at 6:00 p.m., local residents will gather at John Battle High School for a forum on gas drilling hosted by the Washington County Board of Supervisors and the Washington County Planning Commission. Because members of the public may not be able to ask questions during the forum, Virginia Organizing is hosting a Question & Answer Session immediately following the forum in the same location.
The Washington County Board of Supervisors is considering changing the zoning ordinance to allow gas drilling. This change was requested by the gas industry, and will affect every part of the county, but most directly residents and landowners in the Southwest part of the County—near the Scott County line and around Valley Institute, Benhams, and Mendota. The Washington County Chapter of Virginia Organizing is calling on the county to hear all of the concerns with opening up the county to gas drilling.
