We are very pleased to announce that the three constitutional amendments we support have been passed by both the Senate and the House of Delegates! This is the first big step in making these changes to the Virginia Constitution, to ensure that Virginia moves toward a more fair and equitable future.

Last Tuesday, the Senate voted on SJ 248, the amendment that changes the process of restoring the voting rights of returning citizens by automatically granting their right to vote after release. The Senate voted 21-18 in favor of the amendment, giving a win to our Restoration of Rights efforts. The other amendments passed this week were SJ 247, that protects womenβs rights to reproductive freedom, and SJ 249, that repeals the same-sex marriage prohibition in Virginia.
All three of these amendments will move to the next phase of approval, which will involve going through another General Assembly session before being presented to the public to decide on the Virginia state ballot.
