Newport News/Hampton Chapter Updates

The Newport News/Hampton Chapter has been door knocking on the peninsula. We are sharing with our neighbors who we are as an organization and what we are doing as a chapter in Newport News and Hampton.

Our local campaign is focused on housing insecurity with the goal to build a regional overnight shelter for all in need. We have met with Newport News City Council members and Mayor Price to discuss the importance of addressing housing on the peninsula this year.

We are also partnering with Community Change in our statewide action for child care. Our three demands include:

  • living wages for child care providers,
  • having an equitable child care system built on racial justice,
  • affordable child care for all families.

We held our first rally on May 9 at Patrick Henry Mall and our second march at Arms of the King Child Care Center on October 10 to bring attention, support and awareness to this issue.

Over the summer, we participated in cultural events around the peninsula, as well.
