Harrisonburg, Va.—Virginia Organizing hosted a community gathering on Monday, August 26 in Harrisonburg featuring immigration reform advocate, U.S. Representative Luis Gutierrez, a member of the House Judiciary Committee.
More than 400 people attended the rally in support of comprehensive immigration reform with a clear path to citizenship. Virginia Organizing Harrisonburg Chapter leader Father Daniel Robayo said the event was a big success.
“Comprehensive immigration reform is clearly important to U.S. Representative Bob Goodlatte’s constituents,” said Father Robayo. “I wish he could have heard the enthusiasm and energy of the people. The people of Congressional District 6 will not give up on comprehensive immigration reform with a path to citizenship. We will not be silenced.”
Representative Gutierrez is a high profile advocate for immigration reform and brought that reputation to Harrisonburg, an area with a large immigrant population that would benefit from comprehensive immigration reform.
“I am here in Virginia today to help demonstrate the deep and broad support for immigration reform that stretches across this country from red districts to purple districts to blue districts,” said Representative Gutierrez.
The Virginia Organizing gathering was part of a series of immigration events that Representative Gutierrez attended to bring awareness to the issue and motivate people to take action. Earlier in the day, Representative Gutierrez spoke in Chantilly to a luncheon of more than 150 people.
