Virginia Organizing and Open Door Community Thank Wytheville Town Council for Shelter Funding

Wytheville, Va. – For more than a year, the Virginia Organizing Wythe County Chapter has advocated for the Town of Wytheville to support Open Door Community with funding for a warming shelter for the local unhoused population.

“The efforts of Open Door Community and Virginia Organizing Wythe County Chapter have been the result of years of asking people in our community what they need,” said chapter member Andrew Russell.

Local chapter members played a significant role in providing support for the shelter by meeting with Town Council members, writing letters to the editor, speaking during public comment periods, and holding a rally to bring attention to the unhoused situation in the town.

Chapter member Gary Gardner stated, “It’s a good win for our chapter and our community. We will be continuing to work for the needs of our community.”

Virginia Organizing Wythe County Chapter invites the public to join in their efforts, to help make the Wythe County community better for all.
