Richmond, Va. – Virginia Organizing Chairperson Sandra A. Cook released the following statement after Senate Bill 800 passed the state Senate with an amendment to include Medicaid expansion without delay:

"Virginia Organizing applauds Virginia Senator Walter Stosch's leadership in amending the Senate budget to include Medicaid expansion. We appreciate Senator Stosch's commitment to the economic and human benefits of this legislation.

We are grateful to the Senate for the bipartisan support to expand Medicaid to more than 400,000 people currently without health insurance in Virginia. We encourage the House of Delegates to follow this example and oppose any delays to expanding Medicaid so Virginia can reap the benefits the citizens of other states will enjoy."

The expansion of Medicaid in Virginia is the primary focus for Virginia Organizing this legislative session.
