For Immediate Release: February 24, 2013

Richmond, Va. – In response to the state budget amendments passed by the Virginia House of Delegates and Senate on February 23, Virginia Organizing Chairperson Sandra A. Cook issued the following statement:

“Virginia Organizing applauds the passage of the budget amendments today with provisions that open the door for Medicaid expansion. While we understand there is more work to be done to implement the expansion, we greatly appreciate the hard work of the Senators and Delegates who, with bipartisan support of the expansion, moved forward on one of the most important policies in decades.

Medicaid expansion will help hundreds of thousands of people, provide 30,000 health care jobs for Virginians, and bring money into Virginia’s economy. Virginia Organizing is encouraged by the passage of this budget and we hope Governor Bob McDonnell will approve this historic opportunity.”
