Martinsville, Va. — The Martinsville/Henry County Chapter of Virginia Organizing will celebrate National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday by holding two voter registration drives in Martinsville and Henry County. Chapter leaders and volunteers will register new voters at Patrick Henry Community College’s Walker Fine Arts Building from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. and at the Martinsville YMCA from 5-7 p.m.
“How could I not encourage voter registration on National Voter Registration Day?” said Martha Woody, a Martinsville resident and Virginia Organizing leader. “This year, Virginia has elections for governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, every delegate in the House of Delegates, and a number of local offices. It is important for every eligible citizen to cast an informed vote!”
In its second year celebrating National Voter Registration Day, the Martinsville/Henry County Chapter will provide voter registration forms, voter ID flyers, and restoration of rights information for returning citizens with felony convictions.
“I am participating as a volunteer because I am registered to vote and it is my right as an American citizen to vote!” said Ophelia Griggs, a Virginia Organizing leader in Henry County.
