August Recess has historically been used as a time for Congressmen/women to visit in their home districts with their constituents. Most U.S. Representatives do this in the form of town hall meetings in which constituents are allowed to directly ask questions. In Virginia’s 6th Congressional District, U.S. Representative Bob Goodlatte is conducting "virtual town halls" where robocalls go out to specific constituents instead of hosting open town hall meetings. This lack of accountability from an elected official is appalling and Virginia Organizing leaders are planning to demand the Representative take responsibility for his votes and answer questions from his constituents on issues like Social Security, health care and tax fairness.
Join Virginia Organizing in demanding that Rep. Bob Goodlatte hold a REAL town hall meeting in-district! Constituents and Virginia Organizing spokespeople will be available before and after the event for interviews.
