Woodbridge, Va.—The Fredericksburg Chapter of Virginia Organizing will hold a workshop at the Chinn Park Library in Woodbridge today, Monday, September 14 from 7-8:30 p.m. to help returning citizens from incarceration learn more about applying for civil rights restoration.
“One of the most important reasons I am involved in the restoration of rights in Virginia is to create a voice for the generation of disenfranchised citizens that are affected by not having a voice on issues that affect them directly, and that affects their personal and professional life overall,” said Virginia Organizing leader Korey Johnson.
Virginia Organizing leaders across the state have been working to help formerly incarcerated individuals restore their rights and gain access to employment.
“Without a voice on important issues, people are not able to experience the full privilege of citizenship and become dependent on social welfare and public assistance. This creates barriers of employment, housing, and voting and promotes recidivism,” said Johnson.
