Norfolk, Va. — Virginia Organizing will host a health care rally with special guest Councilwoman Andria Padgett McClellan today at 11 a.m. to call for elected officials to continue the fight for health care for all Virginians.
Emergency rooms are filling up from the most recent Covid spike. Case numbers rose by 1000 statewide on Wednesday. There have been 11,950 Covid-related deaths in Virginia alone. Now, more than ever, Virginians need access to affordable, quality health care. On the anniversary of Medicaid and Medicare, Virginia Organizing calls on Congress to lower the cost of prescription medicine and continue to improve our health care system in their upcoming reconciliation package.
“I am in the at-risk category for COVID-19. I am over the age of 65, and I have other preexisting medical conditions. I am reliant upon Medicare to help with my medications, physical therapy, and frequent doctor’s appointments. I hope that Congress will help citizens like me, who rely on these services,” says Barbara Jefferson Harris, a leader in the Norfolk Chapter, and a member of the State Governing Board.
After speakers share their remarks, community members will be available for interview.
