What’s the Plan, General Assembly?

September 10, 2014 2:10 pm by: Category: Health Care A+ / A-
This week, Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe unveiled a plan called “A Healthy Virginia” to expand access to health care as much as his executive authority allows.

The plan calls for new health care coverage for 20,000 people with serious mental illnesses, 35,000 children who are eligible for insurance, 160,000 adults to receive support as they sign up for the federal Health Insurance Marketplace, and 5,000 children of state employees to have access to FAMIS (Family Access to Medical Insurance Security). The plan will also give 45,000 low-income pregnant women comprehensive dental services and other services for individuals with serious mental illness.

As great as the new coverage and services are, we still need Medicaid expansion to close the health insurance coverage gap for the hundreds of thousands of hard working Virginians who are struggling to make ends meet and praying they don’t get sick.

The Virginia General Assembly convenes for a special session on Medicaid expansion on Thursday, September 18. Will you call your state Senator and Delegate and ask him or her to support Medicaid expansion? You can find your legislators’ information by clicking here.

Let’s ask our legislators, what’s the plan? Click here to find the contact information for your legislators today.

Thank you for supporting health care access for all Virginians!
