The 2025 General Assembly session will be held from January 8, 2025 – February 22, 2025. With our collective power, we can amplify our voices and advocate for legislative priorities that will shape better futures for our communities.
Our chapters are in the process of meeting with legislators to discuss our priorities and to determine the specific bills that we will follow for this General Assembly session. When the session begins, chapter members will travel to Richmond to lobby for the legislation that comes closest to meeting our goals.
In 2025, Virginia Organizing will focus on:
- Amending the Virginia constitution to protect the right to vote and end felon disenfranchisement
- Increasing the amount of deeply affordable housing
- Expanding tenant protections
- Funding eviction diversion and homelessness services
- Updating the building code to create regulations to test for and remediate mold
- Limiting unreasonable rent hikes
- Ensuring access to essential utilities and make utilities more affordable
- Providing all eligible low-income families with energy efficiency retrofits by 2033
- Creating utility rates that are truly affordable for those most burdened by energy costs
- Providing incarcerated folks access to adequate cooling during extreme heat
- Raising funding to increase access for families and compensate providers
- Cover All Kids: providing coverage to all eligible children regardless of immigration status
Please contact your state senator and delegate and ask them to support these priorities. You can find them at this link. Let us know if you want to meet with them in person during the session by emailing info@virginia-organizing.org.
Leading up to and throughout the session, we will also be updating our priorities with bills that we support. Keep track of our progress with this document. We can win many of these priorities this year if we work together and make our power visible in Richmond.
