Richmond, Va. – Virginia Organizing Chairperson, Sandra A. Cook, responded to General Assembly tax proposals that would raise the sales tax in Virginia:
“Taxing necessities and purchases places the burden of our state’s economic problems on those with the fewest resources. Virginia Organizing strongly opposes any efforts to raise the sales tax and we suggest that our lawmakers look for a long-term solution to budget problems that will not harm the most economically vulnerable people in our Commonwealth.”
