What: Community forum on immigration reform

 

When: Saturday, June 22 at 3 p.m.

 

Where: Hurkamp Park (Prince Edward Street, Fredericksburg, VA 22401)

Fredericksburg, Va.—Virginia Organizing and the Spanish Information Network of Virginia (SINOVA) are holding a community forum to support comprehensive immigration reform with a path to citizenship on Saturday, June 22 at 3 p.m. at Hurkamp Park in Fredericksburg.

 

The goal of the gathering is to get the community more involved in supporting comprehensive immigration reform by contacting U.S. Representative Rob Wittman to ask for his support of the bipartisan, comprehensive Senate bill.

Aide Sanchez, a Fredericksburg resident who helped organize the rally, said, “There are so many people in Fredericksburg afraid to come out and say that they are undocumented, even though they are still a part of the community. We are your neighbors, our children play together, and we are all entwined in each other’s lives. Immigration reform affects everyone, not just immigrants.”

 

Virginia Organizing Chairperson Sandra A. Cook will be speaking at the rally. “Virginia Organizing hopes to get more people involved in supporting comprehensive immigration reform. Virginians are ready for immigration reform and every poll shows that the majority of Virginians support a path to citizenship.”

 

Sanchez has hope that the rally will help the community see immigrants in a different way. Sanchez said, “We hope that this forum will give everyone a chance to see how immigrants are contributing to our community and learn more about immigration reform.”

 

The agenda for the community forum includes several speakers sharing personal stories and other information about immigration, musicians, and more.
