The New River Valley Chapter became one of Virginia Organizing’s chapters in April 2017. In the beginning, the chapter focused on a local campaign to disrupt the school-to-prison pipeline in Montgomery County.

Recently, the Chapter has been working on a campaign to support low-income residents of Montgomery County with necessary home repairs. In spring 2023, members canvassed local mobile home parks in the New River Valley and learned that many of our neighbors can’t afford essential repairs to their homes. Since then, the chapter has been meeting with the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors to figure out how local government can help maintain safe, affordable housing in the NRV.
