About the Newport News/Hampton Chapter

The Newport News/Hampton Chapter began in 2017 and has continued to grow since then. We continually welcome new members to join our chapter if they work or live on the peninsula, or if they support the work we are doing in the peninsula communities.

Our chapter engages with community members on the peninsula, in both Hampton and Newport News, making use of a hybrid format and taking action in both in-person and virtual spaces. We organize around social justice issues, such as transportation, education, housing and civic engagement. We also strategically work on local and statewide actions. Our chapter meets virtually on the third Tuesday of each month to talk over our local actions, statewide plans, community actions, and continuing progress on the peninsula.

Annually, we participate in Power Analysis held in April, Regional Grassroots Gathering (frequently held in the summer), Statewide Grassroots Gathering held in the fall (often in September or October), Legislative Sessions held in November or December, and General Assembly held between January and March (depending on the year which determines the length of the session). Our chapter has a strong partnership with Christopher Newport University (CNU), where we partner and participate in volunteer fairs, community outreach, speaking with students, internship opportunities, the Social Justice Conference and Women and Gender Conference.

We encourage you to find your preferred way to get involved, bring someone with you, and let’s work together to improve our peninsula community!
