About the SAW Chapter

The Staunton/Augusta/Waynesboro Chapter promoted the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and advocated for the expansion of Medicaid and closing the coverage gap. Members organized vigils, rallies, and community forums to inform individuals about health care.

The SAW Chapter also worked successfully to “ban the box” in Staunton, in order to support the efforts of returning citizens to contribute to society and their families by removing the question about criminal history from city job applications.

Additionally, the chapter has worked to encourage local hospitals to provide better communication services to deaf and hard of hearing patients and families. Leaders celebrated a major victory in June of 2017 when Augusta Health unveiled their new procedures and services to make the hospital fully accessible.

Currently the Staunton/Augusta/Waynesboro Chapter is building power in the Waynesboro community through recruitment efforts to identify new members and determine our next issue campaign! The Chapter has paused their monthly meetings in order to work on building our membership base and organizational power.
