Camil Davis has been a Petersburg Chapter leader for almost a year. She is actively involved in the local food desert campaign and has a passion for getting people active in her community.
“Petersburg is a food desert, which means we have little to no access to fresh and healthy foods in our community,” said Camil. “We are a high poverty area, but we still need to be able to access good food. I’m working with Virginia Organizing to help change this.”
Camil enjoys talking to people and connecting with community members who are directly affected by issues. She appreciates that Virginia Organizing is focused on the grassroots level for change. “So many people start at the top, but change occurs in the community,” Camil said.
Camil also wants to see more people in her community get active. She believes, “the more hands we have, the more we can get done. The more power we have, the more likely we are to make changes.”
“Virginia Organizing really does make a difference in people’s lives by involving the entire Chapter in the process,” said Camil. “I am proud to be a part of an organization that has been around for 20 years and I’m excited to see what growth and change is in store for the future of Virginia Organizing!”
Thank you, Camil, for your leadership in your local Chapter and your great work with Virginia Organizing!
