VIRGINIA ORGANIZING CONTINUES ‘LIGHT THE WAY’ CAMPAIGN TO RAISE AWARENESS, SHOW SUPPORT

What: “Light the Way” Community Gathering

When: Monday, July 1 at 8 p.m.

Where: Town Center Fountain in Virginia Beach (between Central Park Ave. and Main Street)

Virginia Beach, Va.—On Monday, July 1, as part of an ongoing statewide campaign in support of comprehensive immigration reform with a clear path to citizenship, Virginia Organizing will host a community gathering to “light the way” to comprehensive immigration reform at the Town Center Fountain in Virginia Beach.

Alicia Bobulinski, a Virginia Organizing leader in South Hampton Roads, said, "I'm elated that the comprehensive immigration reform bill passed the U.S. Senate, but we cannot stop working for reform now. The U.S. House of Representatives needs to know that the people want reform and the people want a path to citizenship."

Participants will bring flashlights and stand in solidarity for real, comprehensive reform and hear stories of those affected by the broken immigration system.

"Our country's future is directly tied to passing a fair, comprehensive immigration reform bill," said Bobulinski. "Our success as a country is inseparable from this issue."

Light the Way rallies have been held in Virginia Beach monthly since May 1 as an outlet for community members to show support for comprehensive immigration reform with a clear path to citizenship. The bipartisan comprehensive immigration bill passed the U.S. Senate last week. The U.S. House of Representatives has not considered a comprehensive immigration reform bill, but has attempted to pass piecemeal legislation that does not focus on long-term solutions for immigration.
