The Danville Chapter of Virginia Organizing held a public demonstration against proposed cuts to the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid on Saturday, in front of the JTI Fountain at Main Street Plaza in Danville. This demonstration was part of a national “Our Lives On The Line” day of action.

With the fate of the Affordable Care Act and the millions of people for whom it provides health coverage currently in the Senate, local community leaders are joining together with health care providers and consumers to oppose any plan that reduces coverage, cuts Medicaid, or waters down benefits. If the Senate passes a bill this week, the House could immediately consider the legislation.

“We need (U.S. Representative) Tom Garrett to do the right thing. We need Medicaid expansion. We need to take care of our seniors,” said Virginia Organizing leader Renee Stone. “Cutting the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid won’t do that.”
